What would cause bios to detect ram incorrectly?

I have 2x 256mb of 3200 DDR and bios says 128mb but windows says 512. Is it just a bios setting or what?

if windows is showing the right amount then so is your bios, are you sure that 128 is not your video card's mem?

That's wierd. I've seen BIOS picking just one of two sticks. But that would be 256MB, not 128MB. Soumds more like L1 cache in a CPU ;)

I'd run Memtest86 and see what it shows. It doesn't use Windows so it would be an independant confirmation.

I'd also zip off an email to the mobo manufacturer's tech support.

EDIT: Yeah, good point. Sounds like gfx card vid ram

You might need to upgrade the bios on the mobo. It's not unusual to have these kind of bugs on bios.
