What would cause a sudden decrease in metabolism speed?

I noticed a couple of months ago that in the course of about 2 days my metabolism slowed down to approximately half its normal speed. I'm going to go to a doctor about this in the next few days, but I wondered if anyone here would have any ideas what might cause this as I'm stumped.

I'm 18 years old haven't made any lifestyle changes or diet changes that would cause this, my metabolism just slowed down one day. I thought perhaps it would eventually go back to normal so I gave it some time, but apparently not. 😕

EDIT: My normal metabolic rate before this happened was and always has been unusually fast (I digested a meal in approximately 4 hours).

qft. how can you tell when you've "digested a meal"

Do you just mean you're tired?

Well I don't want to go into the gory details, suffice it to say, there are ways to tell by the properties of the end product.
