What would be your suggestion about THIS P4 1.6a?

I got it yesterday and on default VCore and FSB it reads 40-42C
on BD7RAID with BIOS v.7C with retail heatsink and ArcticSilver on it. Packing date is 3/27.
I can set FSB to 145 and run it at default VCore.
Although 150 is no boot. I believe because of my Mushkin PC2100 which does not wanna go over 150 ( when I set FSB to 117 and CPU/memory ratio to 3:4 which put CPU at 117 but memory at 150 it did not want to boot either ).

So I think that this high temperature is preventing me of going higher.
CPU was bought localy .... Should I bring it back complaining about high temps and asking to sustitute it?

No.

Overclocking is the luck of the draw. You bought a 1.6GHz processor, that is all you should expect from it. Anything further that you get is a bonus.

That is correct.
Although I wanted to point out that this P4 at default speed, voltage... etc is having a temperature of 42C. Is THIS temperature normal?

40-42C is not high temperature at all. Usually people has no problem upwards of high 50s or even low 60s is ok for some. Bump up your vcore if you want to get more from overclock. Running 45% faster than what you paid for at default voltage is above average to say the least. Most likely even if you exchange for anotehr one, it won't overclock as well.

It is working at 133MHz FSB perfectly on default VCore running CPU at 2136MHz.... But the temperature....
42C idling... 58C loaded

58*C is high if it is indeed accurate.
sounds very wrong for default voltage tho.

might wanna get some better cooling anyways.

im sorry i misread that at 1st....

if youre still at default vcore - your cpu is fine.
look at your motherboard or memory for the problem.

disable usb? disable onboard audio?

you are being way too vague - tell us what youve tried so far.

Temps sound kind of high *IF* the temp reading is accurate. My 1.6A @ 2.4 1.65 Vcore with stock HS/Fan and ASII idles ~ 36 - 39C depending on ambient temp. Loaded, it goes to ~ 50 - 53C. My setup is in a closed in cabinet in my desk which warms it up a couple of C's.
