What if temps were completely taken out of the equasion, what would the highest safe voltage be before electromigration begins to occur?

Have you read this thread. Checkout the messages pm has posted. He's doesnt talk about any specific cpu but he describes in detail what processes occur when too much voltage is applied, and the damage it causes. Sadly there's no magic formula to say where the limit is but he does say that the life of a processor decreases exponetially with increases in voltage.

I personally would not go beyond 1.55v. The only people I have seen above 1.6v are using phase change (refridgerated) cooling or high-end water cooling. On the temps side, I would always aim to be below 55C after an extended period of full load. Above that, things seem to get unstable very quickly.

Thanks! That helps alot!

I'm using 1.55v on my X2 3800+ and i don't get higher temps than 40C at full load (using TT BT, no IHS).
I can't seem to get past 2.7GHz though, should i use more voltage? :)

20% over stock is the MAXIUMUM I would consider for long range use. That would be 1.56.-1.58 for an X2, but 1.8 or so for a clawhammer, 1.68 for a winchester/venice, etc.

For X2s, 2.65-2.7 is their max. For the 165, after talking with many people, unofficially including a DFI tech, most CPUs can stand anything a board can give it, and 1.65 would be my limit for the 165. Of course, temps should be under 50 at load.
