What would be the best bargain video card right now?

For less than $50 you cant really get a card that will push next generation games without setting everything to "low" and making it look like total crap.

That being said, the Radeon 9200 would be ok... maybe a used Ti4200 64MB, Radeon 8500, or maybe a Geforce 3.

LOL, this hurts to read! My GF2 GTS-V ain't considered good enough to run Barbie games anymore! 😛 LOL!

C'mon 9800Pro, do that price drop already... :frown:

9200 should be just fine. I run every game on it (yes with low settings) and it doesn't look like "crap". Then again, all depends on the person. If the gamer likes the fancy effects, you will have to spend more.

I know, I remember paying $349 for my ELSA Gladiac Geforce2 back in 2000, and $239 for my Geforce3 a couple of years ago. Now I'll be selling my gf3 for $40 or so once I get a chance to take apart the P3 system I upgraded from in December.

Speaking of hardware that has devalued, i remember paying $120 for an 8.4GB HDD! Ouch!

ati 8500 32mb??? WTF

Look on ebay. I saw a lot of GF4 Ti4200 128mb and ati 8500 128mb for around $50 or so.......

Would you recommend a 9200 over say a used 9100 or 9500 for the same price? If I remember correctly, wasn't the 9100 supposed to be better than the 9200?

PS - There is no need for it to run next-gen games. Maybe just like The Sims and stuff like that.

The 9100 Pro was better than the 9200.

but when you do get a nice card and pump up the resolution and the effects it is like a hwole new world of games, atleast that is what I thought going from my 8500dv to my 9800pro, that said, I though most games looked allright with my 8500dv, and it is slower than a normal 8500.

Get that Gigabyte FX5200 only 10 bucks more than the 50 you're looking to spend...

A Radeon 9100 will blow the doors off that 5200. Please don;t recommend that card, its at the bottom of the barrel.

Look into Newegg Refurbs to get a little more value for your money. I have bought several refurbed cards there that worked fine and I saved a lot too!

i remember paying 199.99 for 200mb seagate decalathon 2.5 half height harddrive too small for desktop then 289.99 for 3.2gb seagate medalist, 229.95 for 1.2gb quantum, 299 for 1.6gb maxtor ouch! ouch! ouch!~
my head heads everytime I think about how much more space I would had with that kind of money had I not spend it during that time.
anyway i wised up just a little and will only buy hd if they have come down greatly in prices.
like recently, 160gb 7200 rpm 8mb buffer generic brand for 75.90 shipped, what a steal but noisy as crap lol 😀
