What would be involved in dropping a new engine into my '88 Supra?

Oh, and what about just replacing the head, as some people her have suggested. Is that a reasonable approach?

As long as nothing else has been damaged, the head is all you need to replace. So unless you burnt a piston or something, you ought to be OK just replacing the head.

If you decide to replace the HG, make sure you do it with a steel one. The 7MGTE is notorious for blowing the HG on the turbo model, and HKS makes a very decent aftermarket one that holds up a lot better. Check out the MKIII forums for more info. (I drive an '87)
 

Listen to this man. Roger knows what he's talking about. (BTW Roger, whatever happened with that deal for the Transporter you were looking at?)

I didn't pick it up, the floor pan was rotted right where the rear torsion tube is welded on :(

a guy i know picked up a ranchero on 44's. Needless to say, the "designer" of that abortion was none too bright. his fix for the steering.
