I know there are other threads that have addressed the same issue upto certain extant but I wanted to know if i could get a specific video card havign a TV out and if I would have a good resolution on the screen...

Im sure someone has already tried it out... grateful for all inputs//

I use the AIW Radeon with my old, crappy 27" LXI with only coax-in and the picture is suprisingly good. You are limited to 800x600 60hz with the TV-out, which exceeds DVD resolution, so DVD's look excellent and games without text are very good as well.

Sorry, what I mean is that my old crappy TV only has a coax (as-in cable tv) connection for the video signal. The AIW Radeon has TV-out with either s-video(best) or composite(not as good as s-video, but better than coax) so I have to use a rf-adapter which converts the composite-out of the Radeon into a coax connection.

AIW = "All in Wonder" as in ATI All in Wonder Radeon. You could check the ATI site for specifics, but I believe all of the VIVO type Radeon cards have the same TV-out, (I'm not sure there even is a 32mb radeo with TV-out)

An ATI Rage Fury Pro is a good card for that. It plays games close to a tnt2 and has tv-out/ tv-in and the rage theater chip. It goes for about $90 now. Good all around card but not the best for gaming these days.

BrainSalad,

Does that mean that I have to get the ATI TV WONDER alongwith the ATI Rage Fury Pro ?

Btw....I have a ATI Rage 128 Magnum with 16MB....(Yes God knows I need to upgrade..but then I am not a heavy gamer !!)....Dunno if I can use this at all if I have to use different cards

$100 is what i can spend right now...

Right now the purpose that I am trying to achieve is getting really good quality DVD output on my TV....

I did however read somewhere that DVD output never gets really good tll you have a HDTV...is that so ?

Also features like TV input recording and stuff like that I might have to forego due to the cost !!

You can use the ATI Rage Fury Pro for tv-out to watch DVDs on your tv, but it does NOT come with a tv-tuner. I believe you weren't looking for one, so I guess that's ok. If You wanna go the route of having tv-out, still have hardware dvd and have a newer gaming card, then I would go with the Radeon VE. You can get one for under $100 at newegg. It will have all the tv features of the ATI Rage Fury Pro for around the same price. It might have a 64bit memory bus but it has DDR memory to compensate that a bit, and it's going to play a hell of alot better than the 16 meg Magnum you got now. I think from what you said you want, and for how much, the Radeon "VE" is gonna be the best thing. Then you could sell your Magnum and recover a few bucks from that. Go with the Radeon VE. It won't make any sense to pay for a rage fury pro with all the same features of the Radeon VE, because the VE is much better and newer. I forgot to mention that the Radeon VE supports 2 monitors, if you're into that at all.
