What would be a good PC shooter to get into?

I am about to get into BF 2142 myself after playing the demo for about a week. If you have tried the previous BF series, you might like this one a bit more as it is more balanced and there are more vehicles for everyone.

CS is probably my favorite PC shooter, followed closely by TF2, which is awkward as the two are totally different.

Battlefield 2: Special Forces

INF ONLY

Map: Warlord
No Vehicle Setting: On
Ticket Ratio: 100

Pure non-stop action, killing, strategy, teamwork, you name it....

As our resident Unreal Tournament fanboi, I'd say consider UT3 or the Unreal Anthology (Unreal, Unreal 2, UT99, UT 2004). The UT3 game play is good and Warfare is fun (but be warned, the UT3 user interface and server browser are not up to UT99/2004 standards).

Folks are still playing UT 2004 Onslaught and Invasion-Monster-Mash-RPG and there's still some competitive UT99 CTF if you know where to look.

I would go with:

1) Team Fortress 2 (a fantastic game believe me)
2) Battlefield 2 (Forgotten Hope 2 is great)
3) Battlefield 1942 (Forgotten Hope is awesome)

I would stay away from Battlefield 2142, but that's just me, of course.
