in the price range of $500-600/700

i was thinking about a panasonic model, but you can give suggestions.

I want:
high quality picture to view on TV and Computer
USB transer
preferably s-video out to go onto tv
and i dont care how its save, miniDV or flash disks...... whatever is better

thanks! im new to digital camcorders, and would like the help from people who know about them

Canon ZR25 or ZR30 has been on sale in that range the last couple of weeks.

Or look at the JVC models (forget the model #s).

I've always had an aversion to most Sony consumer products (although my current car stereo is Sony - plays MP3s and installed free) for some reason...always seemed overprices for the features.

I have a Canon Optura Pi and love it.

I prefer Sony and prefer the Digital8, since it uses far cheaper 8mm tape to record on, and is backward compatible with Hi-8 and 8mm.

I'd buy it at Sears, since they match online e-tailers prices, and it would be much easier to return if you don't like it. Buy as large an LCD screen as you can afford. 3 1/2" or 4". The 2 1/2" screens are way too small. It's great to be able to review your shots on the larger LCD. It will cost about $100.00 more, but money well spent.

Edit: The $564.00 DCR-TRV530 would be the one to shoot for, if your local Sears has it. I see they don't offer it at Sears online, so good luck!

hmm, ive looked at a few: how are these?

Sony TRV730
DCR-TRV17

i really want high quality picture on the tv, good max horizontal lines....

which would you think is better quality it pictures? everything else is pretty much the same, cept the lcd screen wich dosnt matter.
the TVR730 has a megapixal and the other is 680k pixels...... but what one would you consider the best??

thanks

We have two TRV730's at my school and I love them. Awesome cameras and they also take megapixel stills onto memory sticks. I like em.

i purchased a trv730 via a sears pricematch.

as for video quality I had nothing to compare it to. i guess i expected dig8 to be soooo much better than a vhs camcorder and so far i'm not too impressed. granted, i haven't really tried different tapes and other things that may have an affect on quality so it may just be my personal experience.

Don't know if it will effect your decision too much, but the TRV530 has a 25X optical zoom VS the TRV17's 10X zoom. It uses 8mm tapes to lay down the video signal, which is half the cost of Mini DV cassettes. It's also backward compatible with friend and family member's 8mm and Hi-8 recordings. Oh, and it's $200.00 less.

That depends on your definition of good. You need to find a model that fits your budget and has the quality and features you desire. How it fits in your hand and the feel of the controls is up to your liking. Go to a store that has a bunch and play with them then buy it cheaper off of the web if you can.

I have the Canon Optura Pi that I like very much. Look at the features to see why I picked that one.

I can show you some video samples I took with it, and edited, if you have a fast internet connection. PM me if you wish.
