what would be a good deal on a 2007 Toyota Camry SE V6 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl)?

i see stuff like "$29,954.00" on dealer web sites, is that really what they go for?

we test drove a 2007 Saturn Aura XE, it has a similar V6 3.5 liter engine and it is about $5000 less

is that $5000 the premium you pay for a non-GM/Ford car? or can you get Toyota's cheaper if you are a great "haggler" ?

thanks

my wife really liked the way the Aura drove, but she has never driven a Camry

*edit*
not worried about depreciation, we still have the last new car we bought in 1989, we'll keep this car for 10-15 years

There's place... edminds? entemans? indmunds?... where it gives you the retail and invoice price for each version of the car and the individual options... andmunds?

According to Edmund's TMV, a 2007 SE with no options came in pretty much at MSRP in my area (about $2700 over invoice).

So it sounds like it's a hot car, and you won't have much haggle room. Of course it showed TMV around MSRP for the Aura as well...but I would recommend using their guide to answer your question better than us goobers.

Oh wow, that much on a Camry? I'm sorry, that was not a good response but still, with that price, you can get a nice Acura TSX or something similar, like a G35. Also, I would take the Accord over a Camry. Have you test driven the Accord?

In my local paper there was an add showing the Saturn vs Camry and some other car and the Saturn was cheaper and had better standard features., even navigation.

here is what i found on edmunds.com

2007 Toyota Camry
SE V6 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)
Total with Options MSRP=$31,210 Invoice=$27,173 TMV=$31,192
Edmunds.com True Market Value® = TMV price

2007 Saturn Aura
XE 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 4A)
Total with Options MSRP=$24,069 Invoice=$22,495 TMV=$24,069
Edmunds.com True Market Value® = TMV price

like i said, it appears that similarly equipped, the Toyota is $5000+ more

maybe they aren't really similar models, but with the engine being the same size, and they are both mid-size sedans, to my novice eye they are supposed to be the same level/type of car

If you are going GM, just go a year or two old and save yourself $10,000.

You can pick up Malibus, Impalas, and G6's for $.50 on the dollar almost.

If you like the Aura, look at the Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan as cross shops.

Another cross shop is the new Altima. For $25k the SE model is a steal.

yeah, i would go with a 2-3 year old car, but the wife has it in her head that it is time for a "brandy new" car. we had some issues with the minivan that we bought used and so now she hates used cars :(

in marriage, sometimes you gotta compromise. she will be the primary driver, so i'll just be letting her get whatever she wants. then when it is paid off i'll have free reign to get whatever i want for my commuter car

You'd be a fool to not at least drive the Altima SE. The "base" SE w/ the V6 is a hell of a car for the money. Watch the option packages though, it gets expensive fast.

Well said like a married man.

I just bought a 2007 Camry LE 4 cyl after comparing it against the 06 Accord. I've had 5 Accords until this Camry purchase. The new Camry is worth a test drive, that's for sure.

Bottom line is what you negotiate with your dealer for the price of the car.

Have you thought about deprication though? GMs do depreciate very fast compared to toyotas.

Overall though, a 1 year old or 2 year old GM would be a better choice but if i were to buy new, a camry is a more decent financial situation tthan an Saturn since depreciation kicks in pretty hard if you want to keep the car for 5 years or less.

Ouch! I just built an SE Camry on Toyota website with all the bells and whistles came out to just under $35k

A fully loaded Aura XE according to Saturn's website comes out to just under $25k.

$10k difference for the Toyota name. No Thanks.

:Q wow with that long a timeline, i would start looking at reliability. GM is getting much better but i's still not up there, at least according to JDpower.

i have a 1997 Saturn SC-1 with 152,000 miles
the only repairs i have done beyond tires/oil/battery is the water pump and alternator

so to me, in my experience, the Saturn is reliable. i realize this Aura is totally different than my SC-1, built in a different era and different manuf. process, etc, etc
but psychologically, Saturn is quality to me

have fun then. It si a pretty nice car. Not beautiful at every angle, a little ugly at times and the engine isnt as refined as the 3.5l in the Camry, but for point a to b, if you are happy with it then have fun. Its got head and shoulders improvement in interior materials and build quality compared to a last gen Saturn and though its not as quick/fun to drive i dont think that is on top of your list at this time so it seems like a good ift.
