What word processor for a slow system?

I'm just picked up a slow laptop (486/33 with 12MB RAM and 240MB HDD) for working on text documents on the road. I've only been around the computer scene for the last 4 years or so and started with a 486/66 with more RAM than that and Win95, however, I don't think this one would handle 95 well at all (I really don't want Windows 95 taking up half the drive 😛).

Because I wasn't around in the pre-486 dx2 / Win 95 days, I don't really know of any word processing programs for Win 3.11. I don't just want to use DOS edit because it doesn't support fonts / bold, etc. Was there MS word back in the day and was it powerful enough to do decent text editing (like reports for school, etc - maybe a picture or two, but that's it)? If not, what would you recommend for text editing on this system? Please help me out here. Thanks,
Shawn

There were some good word processors. Wordperfect 5.1 text mode was really good, plus there was Wordperfect 6 for windows 3.1. It was ok, not the best though. 🙂
