You look less fool, if you could know/read more languages - then you would know, that in foreign countries people do know about your country that you do about yourself...
Fern...
And what do you know about other countries? From your Point of View? What languages do you know/speak besides your broken english? What other knowledge of yours about other countries, let's say, literature, cinematography, music...to find other countries on the World Map
If you meant to say that "that in foreign countries people do know
[more] about your country that you do about yourself...". See the bolded addition (if that's not what you intended then I don't understand what you're trying to say).
And no they wouldn't. I've lived from West coast to east coast. I've spent months traveling by car (old pickup actually) and camping all over the USA. Met people and stayed with them. I was 19 yrs old at the time. since then I've again traveled all over the USA several times. The last was about 3 yrs ago. I've driven, or taken a bus, all over Mexico too.
I've lived and worked in London, Berlin (back when the wall was up), and Paris. Also had work assignments in Spain and Norway etc.
I spent several years traveling through Europe and the Magreb in a camper.
I like sailing. I've sailed the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Adriatic.
I was married to a Frenchwoman, now I'm married to an Italian woman (although she has a French passport; long story). I also lived with a German woman for a couple of years in Berlin.
The vast majority of foreigners know a whole of a lot less about the USA then they think. I don't care if it's people from the Faroe Islands, mainland Europe, Morocco (they didn't even pretend to though, I'll give them that) or Turkey.
I guess the real point would be that I know what it's like to live outside the USA and try to good news info about what's going on here. I know the internet helps now quite a bit but it's only part of the picture.
Oh, have had to learn to get around in Spanish (lived in Miami for 3-4 yrs), German, French and in Italian (just a bit when visiting relatives).
