What window size should you plan for with a website?

Whatever you do don't say, Well, I'll just Use DHTML and always use all the screen real estate even if it's 640X480 or 1280X1024.

Completely not worth the effort....and even if you say "IE only...piss on other browsers"....it's still a royal PITA

Hey, if Andy says 800x600, you have got your answer - no need for any other replies 😉

😀

I think it depends on the site too, if you're doing a geek site you could probably to 1024x768, if you're doing a site for the elderly like 4x3 or something 😀

I'll take a slightly different tack on this. It depends on your audience.

If you expect tech savvy people to be the real users, use 600 x 800 since it will fit nicely with 1024 screens even with the browser headers, etc.

However, if you want to make it easy for everyone, remember that a lot of people out there run the screens at 600 x 800, don't know how to resize a header and never close the "Favorites" list. So try to keep in within 500 x 700 or so. I figured this out after posting a lot of photos at 600 x 800 and having everyone complain they couldn't see the whole picture at once.
