Of these 2 linked units which would be better for LAN gaming, file sharing, etc: in a home situation ??

DSH-8 , about $50.00

DSS-9+ , about $65.00

seems the DSH is not a true switch, but a hub with an integrated switch, does that make much difference ??

your input is appreciated..

The DSS-8+ seems to be well worth the $15 extra in price. In all honsety though, most of the benifits of a switch will not bee seen unless you have more then 5 or 6 systems connected for normal network usage. Games on the other-hand can be very network intensive and you would probably see an improvement by using the DSS-8+ switch. If you can spare the extra $15 it will give you an improvement, especially if you plan on having several systems on your network.

from my experience in attending gaming lan parties, a 10mbit hub will do just fine. even with the hub full (say 8 computers) u'll all still be pinging <10 (depending on the game of course)

however, if you want to transfer files etc WHILE playing games, then i'd reccomend the switch. the switch is definitely worth the extra $15, no question.

thanks for the input.

That's kind of the way I was leaning, but thought I might save a few bucks with the DSH-8 hub/switch combo.

no transfering of files while gaming, prob only 6 PCs on the lan for gaming, we only have 5 for right now.
