What will I lost getting 8500LE *oem* vs Retail?

Well, the Radeon 8500LE 128MB is a super deal - too good to pass up. But there's a $60CDN difference between OEM and Retail..... what will I get with Retail besides a pretty box and a longer warranty?

EDIT: Don't even mention clockspeed. I know about clockspeeds. They're the same in this case. Unless I get an LELE by some sort of mistake....

Sometimes there will be some additional software/games. I am sure anyone selling it could tell you the contents of the retail box. This card (OEM) is currently selling for around (US)$110;(CAN)$170 here in the states.

Looks like one thing I'll lose is three different versions of HalfLife. 🙂
Not that big of a loss.....

The retail box also comes with cables and adapters. Plus you also get that 3 year warranty if you buy the retail box. the OEM usually has like 30 days warranty only.
LE retail box comes with composite video cable and an adapter from s-video to composite.

hope that helps.

Th other thing is that OEM have many different clockspeeds event hough they are all called LE. The retail built by ati is clocked at 250/250, many of the OEMs are at 250/200 and the crucial is 250/166.

ATI should have been much more strict about their partners that werent following the proper naming conventions for the cards.

Supposedly the OEM version of the cards have a slightly lower voltage, which reduces their overclocking ability. At least, I reasd that in a review. Also, I think there is less of a chance of getting 3.3ns memory. Hoiwever, I just bought a retail version and I got 3.6 ns memory anyway.

I've seen the 230/230 which was dubbed the "LELE" - but lower?? Crucial doesn't count. They're the oddball stinkypoo. Are there really some 250/200 cards out there? Maybe that $35 Canadian is well spent to get the retail boxed 8500LE from Future Shop. Guaranteed speed and warranty... but spending $195 Canadian is getting VERY close to the price of a Ti4200...... albeit 64MB not 128MB like the 8500.

If you are going to buy a video card right now, Make sure that you buy yourself a 128 MB card. Sure, a 64 MB card will save you ~CDN $50 but in the near future, you will starve for more memory.

DOOM 3 alone will take ~80MB of memory and plus all the new games coming out, 128 mb will be a much better investment over a 64 mb car.

Dual Head, if you're comparing ATI 128MB 8500 boards, the Le is a single head/VGA card, while the Retail is a Dual Head DVI + VGA card.

Nevermind...I see you're comparing 2 Le versions😱

Would you believe that the Radeon 8500LE RETAIL is only single-head, yet the 128MB 8500 OEM *note, not LE but probably clocked as LE* IS a dual-head card, and built by ATI. 🙂
I'm gonna' get that ah heck! Fast, dual-monitors, and cheaper than retail by a fair margin.

Big thanks to Notorexoid (sp?) for pointing out exactly what that OEM card is!
It better be in stock now or I'll scream! :Q
