What will A BM6 support?

Rifter

Lifer
Well on abits site it says it will support a C2 566, well if it will support a 566 wont it support a C2 700 as well? and it is listed in the PIII mainbords section so will it support the 100FSB PIII's?

my friend has this board, i believe that with the latest bios flash, you can support up to CII 533... anything more will not be compatible...

From what has been written in these forums is that the BM6 will not support cC0 stepping cpu's.
Which i guess is anything above a 600mhz CII. So a 533 or 566 CII that will do the 100mhz dance is your best bet.

It should be able to support a 700. Look at my specs, my older BX6r2 works great and supports upto a 9x multiplier (not that it matters with intel) but all I had to do was bump the FSB to 100mhz and turn on the turbo and BAM!!! 876mhz....

Is the Bm6 similer to a BX6??? and also what PIII's does it support? someone said not a 600, well its in Abit's PIII mobo section on there site and i thought a PIII 600 was the slowest Socket 370 PIII, so does it support the new faster ones then????

I've been running a Cel2 566/ZM6 setup (and have successfully had it running at 1014 Mhz, w/peltier rig) for quite some time.
The latest Bios upgrade will support up to a Cel2 600 (the older cB0 stepping series).

It does look like the newer cC0 stepping series (SL4NX) will NOT work with these BM6/ZM6 boards - I'm very sorry to say.

Technically, I've not seen any data as to why this is (hint to the "Tech" sites: Howz about an article on, Why?) but I've got two non-sequencial SL4NX 600's, and neither will fire up my ZM6 with SU bios.

If I'd known this problem existed (see, "hint to 'Tech' sites" above)I'd have gone ahead and switched to Duron. I mean, now I'm going to have to buy a new mobo anyway......sheesh.

I feel ripped off then, i thought it would support PIII's, it is in the PIII mobo section of there site afterall. I am going to go Amd if those jerks dont do something about it.

I am running a Celeron cc0 566 cpu in my BM6. I added a jumper from cpu pin locations AH4 to X4 on the back of the motherboard. This jumper was part of a slotket mod featured in Tom's Hardware some time ago.

I had been running a 533 cb0 Celeron without any problems in the unmodified BM6. The cc0 wouldn't post in the BM6 without the modification.

Hey Rifter,

I kinda feel ripped off about the bm6, too. WTF?, Abit? How about some bios updates???? The writing is on the wall to replace this thing anyway. No onboard support for ata66 or ata100, the CPUs with cC0 stepping are all but shut down. I feel fortunate to have a 566@850 with no problems. AMD in my future?
