My son has been going to speech classes for a year and his last class was yesterday. He has trouble pronouncing some letters. Like g at the end of a word. Sometimes hte k sound comes out. At 5, we still have some trouble understanding him. But it was much worse a year ago. This is a one hour drive each way plus a one hour class. It's alot for a little kid.

So, we promised him that we'd get him a present when it was over if he behaved well and went to classes. Well, 90% of the time he went without complaint. So was good about it.

Now, he has played the Wii at a friends house. He knows what it is. He has been asking for one for months. And he said he wants that to be his prsent for going to classes. We wanted to spend $20. Well, I think I might get it for him. He'd get it in 6 months for his 6th birthday anyways. So, we'll spend the money now or later.

So, I think I am going to get it.

Now, what game should I get him? I think Mario Kart (he likes that game I know) is possbile. Is there any other game I should consider?

Getting the package deal that comes with Wii Sports Resort. People at work recomend it. They also say that mario Kart is to hard to cotnrol for a 5 year old.

Maybe something from this list. Not all of them seem to be appropriate though. I thinks Cars might be a good bet. The mini games ones aren't bad either since kids can play a few and stop, you'll already get this from Wii resorts though.

I play Mario Party 9(?) with my 4-year-old, although she doesn't quite understand a lot of the controls yet. She still loves to play though.

I have a 4 YO daughter and an 8 yo son.

They both love Mario and Sonic at the winter Olympics and wii sports.

Mario Kart is a bit difficult for my daughter but 6 should be good. She also likes the Dora games. Mario Party is also a good choice also maybe world of Zoo

both my girls, 4 and 6, like the wii sports game that comes with the wii and the toy story mania game. i think either would be fine for a 5 year old.

Thanks for all of the ideas. It turns out that complex motions can be tought for my kid. The numchuck is not really usable right now for him.

I'd say 1/3 of the games in Sports resort are doable for him. He can do canoeing and wakeboaridng. He can do bowling but does not like it. He did like Gold though.

Frisbee gives him trouble. Tabble tenis just is not goign to happen.

Pretty much games which do not require to much accurancy with the motion based controller are good.

Are there any games that do not use the motion controller? I might have to get some Gamecube games for him that are easier to control.

Based on this, are there any Gamecube games that I could use?

Gamecube:
Piglet's Big Game - However, the difficulty late-game gets ridiculous for a kid's game. I had to help her finish it.

Dora the Explorer and the Purple Planet (I have the PS2 version) - perfect for my 4-year-old. Uses only the direction controller and ONE button for all actions (jump, interact). No way to die or lose, and lots of fun stuff to interact with on-screen.

I might grab mario kart today. He liked it when he played it last but he did not control it well. I think with a little time he will get better at it.

EDIT: Could not swallow the $50 on something he mioght not be ready for. Going the route of borrowing games from friends in order to find something he likes. Then I'll get that soemthing he likes.

Go to a gamestop and pick them up used, should help save some money. My 19 month old loves Wii, and loves Wii Sports and Wii Sports resorts. Watching him swinging the controller around during the swordplay games is amazing...

Sometimes he just likes to sit and watch his older brother and sister play too.

another good reason to get used games at gamestop is that you can return the game within 7 days and get store credit to use toward a new game or another used game. this way you can cycle through used games every 7 days for the price of the original used game purchase.

I bought him the Cars game that come with a wheel. He loves it. He played it for 2 hours the first night and didn't realize how long he was playing. It's a pretty easy game for a 5 year old. He even understands how to use the turbo boost and to an extent, he can drift. Yes, the game has drifting which I think is stupid given the target audience. My son is 5.5 years old. That extra .5 might be the difference though. So, it's a good game for 6 year olds to say the least.

JTsyo, thank you. It was a good choice.

I'm also borrowing some games from coworkers. Diego and Wii Sports. I'll give an update soon.

my son is 5 and a half. At age 5 he got a wii.

Also consider Lego Star Wars. Though you might have to help with some of the puzzles.

At first my son couldn't get them but after playing thru them once in coop he can rip right through all the levels now.
