It is an idiom of American origin. An idiom is a word, group of words or phrase that has a figurative meaning that is not easily deduced from its literal definition. In this instance, it means there is or was nothing more to be said about a matter. And that's ALL, she wrote!

This thread is so dumb it makes my head hurt.
You aren't lying! I read just about ALL of them and had a really good laugh. Shakademus & Pliers, are two Jamaican reggae artistes who wrote a song "Murder She Wrote", and T.I. is an American hip hop artiste who wrote, "Thats All She Wrote". The idiom "that's all she wrote" was in play long before Agatha Christine's detective novels became a television series and it means, there is or was nothing more to be said about a matter. That's all she wrote!

the thread is funny
That, it is! Unbelievably so. I can't believe that something this simple, can become so complicated and go on for so many years without the simple explanation. It is an idiom of American origin and it means, there is or was nothing more to be said about a matter. That's ALL, she wrote!!

The truth is she never wrote "murder" at all. "She" was in fact a "he" and rumour had it his real name was Dick Tracy. He apparently walked around Hollywood with a tentpole in his pants so they just called him Dick. So it should read "she wrote Dick".

The phrase is based on a movie title, Murder, She Said, based on the novel 4.50 from Paddington by Agatha Christie . The lead character of Murder, She Wrote, Jessica Fletcher, is based on Jane Marple, the protagonist in 4.50 from Paddington.
