What/what kind of TV should I buy?

I'm moving tomorrow and in the near future I'll need to buy a TV for my great room.

The TV will have to be in the corner of the room and the wife is giving me hard time about external speakers (I'm working on her). So, I don't think much movie watching will be done with this setup. That's OK, I'll be setting up a home theater in the walkout basement(with this setup to start with) .

The room is fairly large like 18' X 22' and the TV will be able to be seen from the dining area and the kitchen so I'll want to fill up the corner with biggest TV I can (that's about 48" wide)

This TV will probably get a lot of use. I wouldn't want to spend more than $2500 on it unless you can convince me I should

What kind of TV should I get? What brand?
 

The TV will lose it appeal after a year or 2, however sound quality will be appreciate for a long time.

Depends on how much work you willing to do and how long you are going to be living at the new house, but I suggest looking up unobtrusive inwall speakers installation.

PS. After looking at the included picture, I suggest save the money and built a shed/storage space.

Huh? Are you saying I should store my stereo in a shed?

That stereo can knock the dust off the ceiling. 😀
And, I'll be replacing that RPTV with a Front Projector eventually

Nope, just the stuffs that are around it. The inwall system is to keep the wife happy.

Quality is not measure by watts/vibration, because poor sound quality vibrates/rattle the house.

I once was at a friend house who had inwall sound system that rocks and the stereos components were hidden in a slick inwall cabinet.

 
Ummm OffTopic you REALLY need to take a close look at his equipment. It may not look great but those are not cheap speakers by any means. The speakers he has will mop the floor with most of the setups that I've seen posted in these forums and I've seen some pretty elaborate setups.
 
You really should go to stores and look at as many sets as possible in person, read a bunch online (AVS forums), then make your choice.

I ended up with a Samsung DLP set.
 
I would recommend a Samsung DLP as well but you may decide differently. But I would definitely go with what K1052 recommends and go into the stores and look at them yourself as well as read the avsforums to see what folks have to say on specific sets.

Those speakers are Klipsch Cornwalls and a KG4 center, the rears are Heresy's and the sub is a M&K. They're being run by Nakimichi AV-10 with a Tanberg amp for the fronts. I'll put up the sound of my stereo against most others. You're looking at about a $8000 stereo not including the TV.

Din't say it is a bad set up and it look like he have a set of Klipsch Chorus/Cornwall.

<--- LOL I'm too late. I once had a set of Chorus, but had to gave it up when move to a small apartment during school 🙁

Thanks. This was my first step. The purchase probably won't happen for a little while so I definitely will be doing some comparison shopping.

If I spent over $2500 on a TV I would feel like an idiot if I didn't quit my job and spend every waking hour watching the damn thing.
 
Rear projection DLP is going to be the best in that price range, you should be able to get at least 50"+ Toshiba has some good ones...
