My house was 5 minutes from a private 200 member rifle and pistol range I belong to.

Sorry to hear that you had to do that... I am not that familiar with the Chicago gun laws, but understand they are pretty restrictive.

I am taking a 3 day carbine course in October, and hope to be moving out of this state shortly after that...

Handguns banned. Rifles and shotguns technically legal but they must be registered, however the police never actually process the registrations they are bascially illegal as well.

Congrats your upcoming move out of the PRK.
