When the Giants beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

(Disclaimer: Not a fan of either team.)

As a Giants fan that one was extra special sweet. Watching Bellicheat go down and seeing all those pre-written 19-0 books selling for 5 cents each was priceless.

But it still wasn't #1 for me. The ATOT kiddies won't remember this, but for many of the people alive at the time there can be only one possible choice. "Do you believe in miracles? YES!"

We don't actually play the games, but sometimes we watch them like we're part of the team. And now that my long suffering Blackhawks might be on the verge I have to reflect.

Being an in-state homer, mine are:

1) Bears Superbowl victory - I was just a kid, but Walter Payton was my first athlete idol. I lived and died when they lost the playoff game the previous year (I think to the 49ers), and the next year I treasured every moment of those dominant playoffs en route to the title.

The Bears SHOULD have been undefeated that year.

2) Jordan's first title. I loved that team. By the end of the finals they were the best NBA team I've ever seen.

I have to agree 100%, The Bulls were freakishly unstoppable and if you beat them, the next time you played them, they made sure they won by alot.
The Bears was just a blast, I wish Walter could have gotten a touchdown. Ahh well. Still waiting for The Cubs, because time will cease to exist, dogs and cats living together, Mass hysteria....

Now Dennis Rodman is in celebrity rehab and Jordan is doing t-shirt commercials and playing golf...oh, and the Lakers are in the finals! GO LAKERS!!!

BTW-I've been a Lakers fan since the early 1990 so I remember a number of games against the Bulls that didn't go my way. But we have Phil Jackson now. :p

What does that have to do with anything? Are you saying if it weren't for the drugs/t-shirt commercials that they'd still be playing?

and?

Dennis Rodman was a nutcase. Only time he seemed halfway sane was when he was with the bulls. the guy was a freak on the basketball court.

what does jordon selling shirts have to say? oh wait a guy who retired years ago still has the star power to be selling shirts/cologne etc.

96 Packers beating the Patriots in the Super Bowl. That's the only time I've know what it's like for 'my' team to win it all in any sport.

82 Olympics ice hockey - just too unreal and storybook.

85 'nova over G'town. I'm not really a nova fan, but was pulling against Gtown because it was The Right Thing To Do. nova pretty much had to play a perfect game to beat them, and they did.

'94 Cowboys. The turnaround from worst team in the NFL to best was amazing and fast.

Patriots beating the Rams in 2002 for their first SB victory. I'd started watching the Patriots regularly as a kid in the early 90s just before Parcells came to town. I was in college and it was crazy all of us running out into the streets in the freezing cold and having a fun time celebrating (note NOT rioting). This was the first Boston team to win a championship while I followed them and therefore why it's first.

The Red Sox winning in 2004 is a close second, especially with the way they came back in the Yankees series. Ortiz was so clutch that year. I was working in a resturant most of that season and was able to watch most of almost every regular season game.

2001 World Series...with all the crap about how "NY needs this" it was great to see the DBacks go out and take it from them.

2009 NFC championship....yeah its not the Superbowl but I was there and got to see the game in person and watching the Cards take it to the Eagles while mocking Philly fans in person is sooo sweet.

The Cowboys won the Super Bowl in 1992 & 1993 (as well as 1995), so they'd been the best team in the NFL for some time by 1994.

KU vs Memphis NCAA Title game '08.

Chalmers hits the three at the buzzer to send it into overtime. Just insane. The fact that it happened while I was at my favorite bar in Lawrence with all my friends blows my mind. For me, it won't be topped.

Another great one. I was in KC though no Lawrence :(

Little history first so you understand my favorite teams - I was born and raised in Miami, FL. Moved to West Michigan in Jr. High School.

1997 World Series. - Florida Marlins (I was 11 and remember a lot of it, even got to goto the victory parade and see the team one last time before they broke it up)

2001 NCAA Football - Miami Hurricanes. The best college football team in history. Should have been back to back undefeated seasons in 2002. I was so pissed off after that 2002 championship game against Ohio State. I never had a grudge against Ohio State but after that game I fricken hate them as much as Florida State, Virginia Tech, and Florida. HORRIBLE CALL.

2003 World Series - Florida Marlins (again as one of the 10,000 Marlins fans in existence it was sweet to see them yet again win a World Series in their short existence, but of course the team was broken up and sold off once again, hence the 10,000 Marlins fans in existence.)

2006 NBA Finals - Miami Heat (Not only did the Heat come back from down 2 games to none to win it all against the Mavs, they beat the Pistons on their way to the finals. I've always hated the Pistons growing up and the fact that I lived in Michigan during that time made it even sweeter.)

2009 NCAA Basketball Championship - North Carolina Tar Heels (Although I've grown up a huge fan of Miami sports teams, the Tar Heels have always been my favorite college basketball team. My older brother was a huge fan growing up, and I of course liked the same teams he liked. But anyways, the main reason this one was so special was because the Final 4 and Championship was in Detroit that year and I was able to go to it with my brother who flew up from Miami to go with me. The finals that year was North Carolina vs. Michigan State and understandably that place was rockin with Spartan fans. But the Heels dominated the game and it was an awesome experience and fun to watch and be there in person.

Also, while I'm doing show and tell here, my favorite (and only) championship as a player was my Junior year of high school when we won the State Championship in Football. I'm #54 on the white team. We went 13-1 that year with our only loss being a 7-10 loss to the D5 runner's up at their place in the rain. We beat a team in the championship that was undefeated and crushing everyone in their path as we barely won our 5 playoff games by a combined 21 points. We won by 12, 1 (OT), 4, 2, and 2 points. We won 16-14. Being infront of all of those people and playing in the Silverdome in Detroit on television (FSN Detroit) was probably the most nervous I've ever been in my life.

2005 Orange Bowl/BCS National Championship - unlike the previous year, left no doubt about the superiority of the national champions. That said, the next year's Rose Bowl killed me as a Trojans' fan.
Super Bowl XXIX (1995) - The first time I experienced rooting for a team and watching them win it all (I was too young to pay attention to the previous four 49ers Super Bowls)
Champions League 2008-2009 - The best of the six trophies Barcelona won in their all-conquering campaign, as well as the one that cemented them as the undisputed kings.

1994 Rangers.
I was a die hard fan at the time, and absolutely pumped for every game. Strangely, in game 7 of the finals I felt totally numb, as if I had I had too much invested and couldn’t digest what was going on. I was in a daze after they won.

Have to give mention to the ’08 Giants. gimmewhitecastles said it best:
Huge underdog? check
Team going through turmoil during the season? check
Ending an undefeated season in the last possible minute? check
One of the greatest plays in all of sport with a lot on the line? check
Adding more fuel to the fire to the NY-Boston rivalry? check

And I was too young to appreciate the 1980 miracle on ice. But I have no doubt that was awesome.
