I am doing software engineering. The salary is $45k/yr + benefits + 2 bonuses (1 xmas, 1.5%, and the other is profit sharing in the spring, which is ATLEAST 6% [ last year was 14%:) ] ). So it is going to average around $50k after bonuses i'm assuming. btw I'm in Maryland, and it took me about 2 months to find a job after I really started looking.

Which company?

BS Computer Science 2001
Started as a temp at $16/hr a couple months before I graduated.
9 months later, they raised my rate to $23/hr.
6 months after that, I got a permanent position at around 50k + bonus(anywhere between 2% and 10% annually) and full benefits.

I haven't graduated yet, so my professional(sp?) career hasn't started. But my very first job ever paid $13.67/hr at the beginning.

props to you for even knowing what a computer is. my grandparents ("only" in their 60s) have no idea what a computer is or what it's used for. the most sophisticated piece of equipment in their house that the interact w/ is probably the microwave.

Its funny how much you get paid in the US, the cost of living kinda offsets it though.

I started at maybe 30K US in eastern Canada in 2002 which is above average.

Most of my jobs (starting in 1987, there have been a LOT since) have been under $10 an hour, but I don't have a degree, just certifications.

But here's some people I know (I'll just give an initial):
D - 2 Masters (Teaching, History), 1 BA (English), 1 BS (Psychology) - 41k/yr in 2002 (I might be off on the BA/BS thing) oh, and he looked for work for 3 years in over 20 states to get that job, it was the first offer he got in that time
A - AA (or maybe AS) Business - Nothing since 2002 when she graduated, not a single job offer
M - AA (or maybe AS) Accounting - 7.50/hr 2003

$42 an hour as a 727 flight engineer. Of course I rarely worked more than 65 hours a month so it was really not a whole lot of money.
