I just graduated from college (may 2004), and I got an offer doing computer work for $40K starting. My major was Computer Science and Economics. I know the avg. for C.S majors is around $46K (according to the recently released salary survey)

What about you guys? List major and year also

Thanks

A lot depends on where you live, too. I started at $32k / year with an AS in Computer Network Administration. However, living in Wisconsin is considerably less expensive than most places in New York.

i graduated in May 2004 also, with a C.S. degree. i just started my new job actually September 13th, so this is my 3rd week here.

I am doing software engineering. The salary is $45k/yr + benefits + 2 bonuses (1 xmas, 1.5%, and the other is profit sharing in the spring, which is ATLEAST 6% [ last year was 14%:) ] ). So it is going to average around $50k after bonuses i'm assuming. btw I'm in Maryland, and it took me about 2 months to find a job after I really started looking.

quit a year later to take a 37k job.

why'd you quit to take a lower-paying job?

not enough growth opportunities at old job. no personal life since i was 100% travel. sucked living in a hotel for months at a time.

new job had better working hours, no travel, and i have more time to do stuff after work.

right now, time is more important than money for me.

I would have made 32k/year at my previous coop job. But it was for 6 months. Candidate for Computer Engineering in 06.
