Is that an old Saab? It certainly has similar styling to the 900.

Yes, it is a Saab and that picture is looks pretty much exactly like the car that I first owned. A 1973 Saab 99 LE, beige with beige interior with a 4 speed manual transmission.

Depends on how you define first car.

1)
1990 300ZX Twin Turbo
Dad bought it as a toy, and being that I really only drove to school and back (my HS was only 2 miles away) it wasn't really a big deal for it to be "my car". I later bought it off him, or well, paid for his boat in exchange for full time custody of the Z :)

2)
1995 240SX SE
Parents picked it up for $3,500 in September of 03 for me for college. So again, technically it was my car but I didn't pay for it. My mother is driving it a lot now (and having a blast in her own words) but it's still mine long term (hope to strip and build for autoX).

3)
2005 Legacy GT
First car that is outright mine.

Well I had a Chevy G20 cargo van that my dad gave me but it was still under his name.

My first true car I bought and put under my name is a 1995 V6 Camaro Convertible for $1400. I beat the shit out of it but it keeps running.

I guess it is better than getting a hand me down escort wagon or something.

1970 GMC Vandura, 250 with positraction, 3 speed on the column for a while. The column wore out so I put the shifter on the floor. I used a piece of rebar to make the shifter.

my first car was a 2001 nissan altima gxe limited edition. had a pimp 100 W stereo with i believe 4 speakers, and the worst fake wood ever. had a salvaged title, the electrical system had issues with shorting bulbs out sometimes, the trunk leaked, and i had to get a new exhaust for it since there was a hole in the original one. and some of the panels in the rear no longer lined up right because it had been rear ended.

cost around $8000, and my parents paid $2500 for me plus repairs (it was from an auction still damaged not exactly the best repair job) . had a lot of fun times in that car, but sold it on craigslist 4 years after i got it, to some shady guy with $3300 in a giant wad of 20s.... sometimes i wish i just kept it as a beater.

Fire engine red 1965 Vauxhall Viva, wopping 1.0L engine, could change the front tires by lifting up the front end dead lift style and kicking a block under the control arm. I pulled my uncle's old car out of the back field, rebuilt it and put it back on the road when I was 16.
