What was YOUR favorite version of Winamp?

Yeah, winamp 2 for me, however winamp just sucks for managing and then listening to large libraries of music. I think the fact that it was one of the first mp3 players that supported just about every format under the sun to come out, along with the fact that years ago people simply didn't have the large collections they do now.

Its foobar now for me as well...

Not 5.2...

The latest Winamp 2 was pretty cool. It had a solid userbase. I use Winamp 5.08 and VLC now. Foobar doesn't amaze me like Winamp did back in the day.

no real favorite. just never upgraded from 2.8 because i was lazy😛 had the installer saved on drive...and it was good enough not to bother upgrading again. no real reason to bother.... why would i want to watch video on winamp anyways meh, silly bloat.

My favorite is the latest version available. You guys need to beef up your rigs if winamp is putting a hurtin' on ya.

Winamp 5.x lite is my fav music player. 5.x full does take up more resources, just look at the speed of the eq visualization. If you like the speed of 2.x but want the updated features of 5, go for lite.

I'll get flamed for this i'm sure, but i liked the 3.xx series, since teh skins were great.

The thing that annoys me is that to play aacPlus, i need whatever 5.xx version it is or better, & the 5.xx series is seriously bloated.

I still use Winamp though...it's been my main music player for years now.

The lite version isn't bloat:
http://www.winamp.com/player/free.php
This lists the chart of all the features of 4 different versions, lite being on the right column. Anything good that's lacking in the lite version can and should be done with another piece of software (burning, ripping, video, device syncing, etc). The only annoying things are having to manually find desired plugins (if any) for the following, but I'll make it easy for you:
1) visualizations. just get milkdrop: http://www.nullsoft.com/free/milkdrop/
On my p3 laptop I go for something lighter and faster: http://www.soundspectrum.com/g-force/download.html
2) library. just get dynamic library: http://nunzioweb.com/joonas/dl/
3) radio. maybe there's an better way but I just go to http://www.shoutcast.com/index.phtml
and load a station from there, and bookmark it in winamp so i needn't go back to the site later. simple enough right?
4) am I forgetting something? You might start poking around here: http://www.rarewares.org/
or the winamp.com plugins section

If anyone cares to see my winamp screensheet with transparency, library, updated skin, and visualization running on the desktop (so it stays out of the way) try here:
