What was your favorite arcade game?

I was born in the 80's and that pretty much was the dawning of arcade games. The first time I ever played an arcade game was in a pizza place in North Dakota when I was about six or seven. I don't remember the name of it, but it was a game where you were a cop I think and you shot robbers. I do believe the game came under scrutiny back in the day. That was when things were still pretty much wholesome and games like Grand Theft Auto would be frowned upon. Something like that would simply be unheard of.

Latter on my parents and I packed up and left North Dakota for California and there was a 7-11 down the street from the school. Since it took my mom like 2 freaking hours to pick me up after school I went with friends to 7-11 and played Street Fighter. Latter on I had it for Super Nintendo. 7-11's don't even have arcade games anymore. I suppose with the advent of the gaming console kids were playing games at home more often than not smashing turtles, collecting coins and saving the princess. Or going the beat out of hell in loops with a blue hedge hog.

When I went to Job Corp in '99 they had arcades there and my all time favorite game to play was Area-51. I beat everyone's score in that game and students would gather round to watch me blow away aliens. Then another dorm mate beat my score so I had some competition and I beat his score and it continued. I don't even remember who was left with the highest score.

Another arcade favorite of mine was, and if you guess this you know me all too well. LOL! Terminator 2 Judgment Day! That game was kick ass ! I had that game for Super Nintendo as well. I guess the shot 'em up games were my forte because I was pretty good in those. Just like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. But the FPS's they have now I get shot so many damn times. When I first played Call Of Duty it was a cluster fuck of death all around. And the bastard that got 3 kills in a row got a freaking chopper to cause even more havoc.

Bottom line Area-51 and Terminator were my favorites.

This guy sucks major. LOL! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LIWHqTIKAQ

T2 and Black Tiger (actually used to own both as well).

In the same vein I collect pinball machines. Favorite being Funhouse back when I was a kid. Currently I own Funhouse, Space Station, Xenon, Time Machine and Haunted House.

Donkey Kong
Tutankham
Zaxxon
Pole Position
Defender

Street Fighter 2. I was addicted for several years. Then I discovered Virtua Fighter 2. I played that for several years. I bought SNES for SF2 and Sega Saturn for Virtua Fighter 2.

Marvel vs Capcom 2

There was also this monster truck racing game with nitros and other powerups that I can't remember the name of. We used to play it during lunch in middle school (we were allowed out for lunch) at a local pizzeria. That machine ate many, many quarters.

I mostly went for shooters and fighters in arcades from the mid-90s on. Enjoyed Time Crisis, Marvel vs Capcom, Soul Edge/Calibur, Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter. Cyber Sled was pretty fun. In Tekken I was ruthless, won most of the battles in <15 seconds.

I remember going to Montreal for a field trip and Virtua Fighter 3 had JUST come out. There was a eight-deep line of guys 10 years older than me to play VS, beat every one of them. Then the CPU beat me on the next round. :\

I wanted to get into DDR but they didn't have any of those in my area. When I get a house maybe I'll try to track down a 3rd Mix arcade platform.

If you were born in the 80's you missed the golden age of arcade games entirely. They had dawned and the sun was setting before you ever went near an arcade. 1978 to around 1984 or so was when arcades ruled. After that home systems had started getting better and arcades started to die off.

I liked Asteroids and Tempest most of all. Spent some quarters on Missile Command, Zaxxon, Qix and Tron. Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, Pac-Man and Defender were really big back then too, but I never got into those.

When Tempest came out it had a bug or Easter egg, if you knew the trick you could get 40 free credits for a quarter. Used to play for a couple of hours and sell the leftover credits for a few bucks to buy a pizza.

Rastan ... spend long hours and a few bucks at the corner store playing this, circa 1988.

Just hearing the background music brings back memories.

In no particular order, Monkey Climber, Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Zoo Keeper, Space Invaders, Asteroids, plus really old pinball games. And, Haunted House (a pinball game). That was rapidly growing to be one of my favorite pinball games, but the guy who set it up allowed for fairly loose play; i.e., it took quite a bit to get it to tilt. After servicing it, he didn't finish the connections for the back. The first time it was played after that, my friend used a little English, and the backboard came crashing down.

Monkey Climber? are you sure it wasn't Crazy Climber?

I would hate to see the total amount of quarters I wasted on those early video games / pinball you listed
You forgot to mention Robots , Tank and Missle Command :)

I hadn't heard or played that machine until around 2003 at a collectors house. I fell in love with it immediately and promptly got one for myself :)
