BrotherMan:

It's easy. When I took the SAT's the only math class I'd had was basic algebra. The rest of my math knowledge came from personal study.

As for my verbal score, I'd read a book or two. In fact when I took the SAT's I'd been writing for 3 years, published twice, had a very very good understanding of linguistics (with a smattering of 7 languages including 3 foundation languages), and was undergoing a little project with a friend of mine...reading every book in the school library between us. My school did an article on us and after a little research I came to the realization that by the time I was 18 I'd read around 4000 or 5000 books. *shrug*

Oh I'd been in high school for 4 years when I took it...I just could never take any higher math classes becasue I never passed algebra. Also there were all kinds of requirements about GPA to get into many classes, mine was a .012 so I was never allowed in.

And just so you know, I didn't have any problem with math - in fact I enjoyed playing around with trig, calc, and physics problems. I only failed because of school politics and atitude. But because I lacked any true training in the higher math disciplinies I was completely unable to answer many of the questions in the math section with any kind of certainty.

You guys are smart...I just got my scores from the June 2001 test.

M: 540
V: 620
T: 1160

It seems like something is messed up, i'm stronger in Math than in Verbal. I actually thought I may have pulled over a 650 in Math. I called the 1-800 # to get my scores the day before they said you could, I wonder if that is really right...I bet it is though.

Well I wasn't exactly worried about it...I ended up passing one class in 5 years. Most I failed for attendance (I only showed up for tests, labs, or if we were going over something I wasn't comfortable with (which was almost never). The rest were failed from lack of homework (I never did more than 1 assignment from any particular learning segment), attitude, or political grievance (yes I failed 3 classes over policies (like religious, ethical, and such)). I also failed 2 semesters due to suspensions and expulsions (once for fighting, a few for absences, a couple for political stands, a couple for weapons, some other stuff I don't remember).

Interestingly my college GPA has stayed between 2.15 and 3.35, and I still do the exact same things with the same attitude and philosophies. I guess it goes to show that school is more about politics than learning.
