Ditto.
Mine was a tracfone.
My first real cell phone (if you can call it that) with a good carrier was a Moto C333, and it was shit.
It was only on AT&T, and this was back when AT&T wireless had shitty service and phones, and they eventually sold out to Cingular cuz they couldnt make a profit.
I cant imagine why the dude in the pic had his in 2008. It was junk on opening day and would have been unacceptable in that year.
Everything that can be wrong about a cell phone was exemplified in that sucker. Poor power management led to batteries draining in half an hour and dying after 6 months. Overheating of course. Shit electronics, especially in the transceiver, so dropped calls were the norm. Tiny keys, even for a guy like me. The cool blue backlight was actually not bad, better then the Motorola V series which set their standard for quality but not aesthetics. But everything else was fail.
I stopped using it long before the contract gave out, and putzed around with other phones until I got the Nokia 3300.
It might look stupid, but it worked great. The color screen was pleasant and easy to view, and the menu system was very better than motorolas at the time, I loved having profiles. The full keypad was awesome for texting and even just entering contact info. Proper multimedia player. Good speaker and loudspeaker. Excellent transceiver. Strong battery. Easy to remove MMC and that complemented the music player nicely. Overall a win, even if it looked silly.
When that service ran out and AT&T stopped doing cellular, I went to Cingular with a Nokia 6230.
Solid build, all the same good quality features as the 3300. Made me believe that Nokia was really the best, especially for low-end and mid-grade phones.
Camera was acceptable but I really never cared about that. In fact I would have been happier if they'd take 50 bucks off the price and nix the camera.
Unfortunately when I got out of the Navy I didnt need a phone as often. And I stopped all service for a little while. Played around with tough phones on Boost for a bit, but that was expensive service at the time. They are better now.
