What was this?

I had a thread open I was reading before. I hit refresh and got a page warning 'this page is not secure, someone might be trying to steal your password on anandtech' with a button for safety.

It had the "https:" in the URL in red and a slash through it showing it wasn't in effect.

Any time I tried to open the thread the window popped open instead.

Finally I had to leave the site and go to it again to finally not get the window.

Occasionally you'll get an insecure connection warning if there are temporary issues connecting to the server, but if it was an actual popup or redirect it could have been from a malicious ad (see other thread).

If you aren't getting it all the time, though, I wouldn't worry about it. But if it does happen again a screenshot and basic system details (OS, browser, browser extensions) would be helpful.
