What Was THis Kid THinkinG?!

My sister in highschool comes home telling me a story in her chemistry class.

Some student as a "prank" decided to put acid in the teacher's water bottle.
The teacher.. smelled something funny before he drank it and the kid was sent to the office for suspension.

I don't know what this kid was thinking. This is beyond a prank, it's like a real murder plan.
The dumbass is lucky the teacher didn't drink it.

Anyways, just an interesting story.

The student should be charged with attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon, or some other appropriate charge. They should not just laugh it off as a disciplinary matter, since there was intent to harm.

Nah, I do what he did all of the time. You just end up holding the shift key a little bit too long or pressing it a little bit early. It's quite an easy mistake to make.

On topic, what the heck was that kid thinking? He probably didn't even know what the heck he was doing. Kids that dumb shouldn't be taking classes any more advanced than kindergarten. What a moron.

How much acid? If it was strong enough it would've started to react with the water bottle itself no?

I think it would depend highly on the molarity of the acid solution in the water bottle to determine if it was really serious. Not that I'm saying it's ok to do this, but not all acids are gonna kill you.
