What was the UBB crash of '99?

UBB crashed when we hit 5000 users or so, it was cgi based on a flat file architecture. It wasn't designed to handle the abuse we were throwing it. Thus it was ditched.

Wow, that sounds almost painful. I hope UBB has upgraded themselves since then.

Wasn't there more like 10k members around the time of the switch?
I also remember when Anand was considering Delphi Forums, and asked what people though about it.
Damn the software they used was awful!
