What was the UBB crash of '99?

I vaguley remember it (this is back when I was NFS3 and I frequented AT and AGN3D), but Anandtech was growing rapidly at that point and the forums couldn't handle the immense traffic. The forums were basically borked for long periods of time. I think Anand finally said "fvck it" and we got FuseTalk. I don't remember is the switch to FT was planned all along or if the switch to FT was sped up due to the crashes, but it was much needed.
I can also remember all the bitching about FT when they switched over

Back when we were on UBB, I used to post a lot of hardware news and reviews that I found on the web in the general hardware forums. I continued this when we switched over to FT. Anand emailed me out of the blue one night and asked me if I wanted to do it for the AT front page. I was like [Napoleon]"Heck Yeah!!" [/Napoleon].
So I became apart of the AT family. And yes I know Anand personally and we even had a class together at State. He's a nice guy.
As for the Ace Reporter, the mods gave it to me a few years ago

I had mod privelages for about 2 days many moons ago. I thought it was rather overwhelming and I didn't like crackin' heads so I told Jason to remove the privelages.
