Seven Kingdoms, perhaps? I believe it featured a spy/espionage element. The cover has lightning but no castle or tree.

Castles + Castles 2 was probably the best castle game in the 90's

10 years ago would be 2000, so we need to advance our searches to Windows 98/2000 games :)

Age of Empires was very popular during this time period, it featured wall building and real time strategy attacks.

played it with windows 98 yup, not age of empires tho, played all of those b4 =)

it was not real time all the time, only when you attacked and defended, wheen that was over you could train cannons, catapults, horses and archers. and also espionage on the enemy to reveal which forces wuld lie on the next terretory before you would invade it, you had several places you could choose to invade.

You sure it's not stronghold, lord of the realm, Age of Castles,

I have a really hard time believing you can't find this game. Why don't you give us the year you played this game (or it's release date), a general idea of what studio developed it, the various types of units, any names of factions or anything, and how you found out about the game.

EDIT: When I tried to find a game I played in the 90's , I had a hard time but eventually found it

How can you not find a modern PC game (I'm sure it has PC reviews still online somewhere) from post 2000???

because I was young and barely understood english, so I dont remember the developer, name, exact year, or studio, units I have already told alot about

I lent the game from my brother which is 5 years older than me, have asked him but he could not give any better description than I can, and he said he lost the cd and the box it contained.

do you see any cannons in age of castles ?
stronghold is even too good graphic
it looks like lords of the realm, but it's not cuz lords of the realm is even more complicated and in lords u have control of way more units than this other game I am looking for

gonna troll youtube to try to spot it in any top 10 strategy list ...

Most of the stuff you list sounds exactly like Lords of the Realm II, which is probably why people keep asking you if that's the one. Is it possible that your memories as a 9 year old are just off by a little bit?

one important factor here is that in lords of the realm 2 there are absolutely NO cannons and catapults

in the game I played there were, and you could manouver them all around the map if you wanted to, and their size were like 4 pixels, not large objects

I know someone have played it and remember ! keep te good work on guys =)

Castles 1 was great, Castles 2 sucked giant monkey balls. I remember one magazine had there annual awards, Castles 2 took the award for biggest flop, but earlier in the year they had proclaimed it to be serious title contender after their initial preview. lol

we should be searching according to Box Art since this is what the op remembers the most.

There were catapults, siege towers and battering rams in LOTR2.

But no spies or cannons.

Sounds like Medieval Total War (did it have cannons?), but the box art doesn't fit the description in the OP.
