Bird flu specifically may well turn out to be hype, but a worldwide influenze pandemic is another example of somthing thats happened more then once in the past & will without question happen again.

Edit: The HK flu in particular is somthing to be aware of because it was originally found only in poultry, but mutated to infect humans.

exactly. people who post Climate Change and Pandemics as something that will not happen have no perspective whatsoever. These are potential disasters that have very reasonable chances of occurring. The fact that they are "hyped" in the media is a good thing, b/c it makes people aware.

These events have happened several times over during the course of the earth's existence, including massive population crashes. These are ongoing potential events with no set date that it will or will never occur.

Furthermore, as the population of the planet continues to increase at faster and faster rates, the chances of a deadly global Pandemic occurring approach 1. Not saying this is something that people should be frightened of on a daily basis, but to throw it out as over-hyped BS is extremely ignorant and naive.

Global warming is already happening, has been for some time. It's an observed phenomenon that our globe is getting warmer. Catastrophic climate change may or may not happen, which has far more diastrous implications than global warming. But to say global warming is a hyped disaster that will never happen is completely wrong.
