Angels and Demons was excellent too. The curious thing is that if you describe either book in general terms in a paragraph, it is a dead on description of the other.

"Our hero is woken in the middle of the night and summoned to solve a curious mystery...."

The two books follow the same basic storyline, but are different enough and well written enough that you won't care - they are that good.

That's just Dan Brown. ALL of his books invovle some specialist of some sort getting woke up early and having to be called in to look at something strange. Deception point. Digital Fortress. A&D. TDC. All of them have a lead male and female, one of which (if not both) are specialists in their field and end up falling for each other at the end.

They're good reads, but all follow the same generic outlines.

A&D was much better then TDC. Both were somewhat enjoyable because of the trivia, but A&D had more of a gripping story.

They are written very similar & can get boring if you don't enjoy the constant facts being thrown at you. I read A&D first off & have yet to get completely through TDC, simply because it is much of the same thing: interesting facts, without nearly as much detail put into the story itself.

Thanks for the responses...I'll be picking it up pretty soon.

Working on The Elegant Universe now, very interesting and good read.

Started on Cryptonomicon last year, but stopped because school got very busy, I guess I'll pick up on it when I finish TEU.

My summer reading has included the "Hitchhiker" series, Bujold's "Vorkosigan" series (down to 2.5 books left out of a series of about 16), and will read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and Gerrold's "Chtorr" series (bought books 1 & 2 yesterday at Powell's, need to track down 3 & 4, the series is out of print.)

Before that was Pattern Recognition by Steve Gibson. Don't know what I thought of that book.

Great book, my all time fave. But then again, I don't read much :p

EDIT: Referring to Rainbow 6...and yes, I read it after I played the original game

I hear it's got a great plot...about a young, innocent brain cell who falls in with a bad guy named "Butane" and loses everything as a result. :p

Best book I have read in last year in Gates of Fire - Pressfield

I just read Gates of Fire about a month ago. Excellent book.

Currently most of the way through "Every Breath You Take". True crime book about this crazy-ass rich guy who hired someone to kill his ex-wife.

I don't remember the last book I read because I only read a lot during school, but I do know the Redwall series is a great one, by Brian Jacques I believe.

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk

Yeah I had seen the movie a few times, but the book adds a lot to the story. I'd also reccomend Invisible Monsters and Choke, also by Palahniuk.

Looking for a new book. I've heard good things about Assassin by Ted Bell.

What have you been reading?

Trying to read UHGthG (all 6 too), but having a hard time taking it away from my wife... I almost finished the first book.

Master & Commander

by Patrick O'Brien

Really good but the navy terms, ship terms, and old style english make it hard to understand at certain points. The first of a whole lot of books

I have no urge to read books. I don't recall the last time I completed one. I think the closest I came was when I read something to learn a scripting language.
