for me, it has to be learning to cook. I'm still having a heck of a time with it. How about you?

All the chores have to be done by me or they don't get done. When I lived at home, everyone helped out and no one person had to do a whole lot.
 
Cooking for One.

I knew how to cook, since I cooked alot at home... but cooking for 6 is different than cooking for just one.

Had a bit of an issue with that myself. Not because I couldn't afford them; I just lost track of the due date 😱 Once the city shut off my utilities and the combination of late fees and having everything switched back on after hours nearly doubled the bill, I decided to do auto-withdrawl.

That's part of my problem. Cooking for 1 person is difficult.

more like its a pain in the ass. i can cook plenty of things for one that i could have for leftovers, but it gets boring eating the same thing that often. i find myself eating out too often sometimes.

also, i never make anything large or special as a meal now that i live alone (im divorced) abd while i like cooking simple, sometimes i want something really nice, but cant justify the expense, or the time needed to make it.

For me, it is:
Bills / Budgeting $$ (and not spending money on stupid stuff that I don't need)
Cooking
Tidying up the place.

I have setup most of my bills to be auto pay, but i have one or two utilities that don't support auto withdrawal.

i was paying my own credit bills while in college, so bills aint a problem.

cleaning up, doing laundry. then i got a bright idea... i hired a maid 😀

Yeah they tend to get quite punished a lot in college.

A few years ago at my first apartment, my friend randomly comes over and tells us he is going to punish our toilet. The poor porcelain was begging for mercy I think.
 
Washing dishes (usually only one other roommate would do them besides me on a regular basis, and do them without leaving half the goddamn food still on the plate)
Keeping control of myself to not get drunk all the time
 
keeping the place clean and keeping track of when to play bills.. that's the hardest.. cooking is the easiest
 
I'm still freeloading, so don't know yet. However, I'm capable at feeding myself (notice I don't say "cook"), dishwashing and cleaing. However, I am completely lost on the art of clothes washing...

....that, and living with a room mate that has a different idea of "clean" than I do. I shudder when I think about what his house or apartment is going to be like once he graduates.

Really? I thought you could get away for a while without paying utilities. I was told by my parents that it's a life necessity thing so they can't just pull the plug on you that easily. But who knows. I've been late on my Comcast bill for 2 months before and I didn't even get a late fee.

My roommate takes care of PG&E so I don't know. We only have 2 bills to pay. On top of that I have 2 CCs and wireless bill to pay. Not too hard right? 4 bills a month. Cingular offers text2pay, so I can't complain. My only late one is usually my Comcast bill. My mom sometimes sends me emails to remind me when my Citi card is due since her pay date is the same as mine. Usually when I schedule that payment, I'll also schedule my AMEX payment.

Oh... almost forgot rent. My roommate usually gives me the rent check before the 1st so I can get it in the bank. I have till the 5th to get my money in to the manager, so even if my account is dry I have a few days to transfer money (not to mention they take at least until the 8th to deposit my rent checks). However my CC bill are usually due around the 25th, so by then I already make sure my checking account has money funded from my high interest savings account.

Really depends. I mean I went to my friend's apt (7 guys) and it smells like ASS. Urine on the floor (gosh how do you even take a dump), dirty toilets, showers with so much soap scum it's all black...

For starters just buy the fvcking chlorox bleach box from Costco and throw a tablet in every 6 - 8 weeks. Your toilet bowls won't even need scrubbing and if it does just minor scrubbing. Mop every month? I mop and swiffer the kitchen very often because I have a guinea pig who lives there.

My college apt may be messy as in there's a lot of junk around, but it's all sanitary. I scrub the kitchen counters every so often and the bathroom while lacking an air freshener certainly does not stink. Oh and I do more cleaning than my female roommate does...
 
Dealing with roommates was probably the toughest part. For some reason, I always forgot to buy groceries for them as well as myself. I only did that for about a month before I moved out on my own, though.

There was also a bit of culture shock with moving from rural Pennsylvania to the San Francisco area. Someone asked me if I was Bi during my first dinner party out there, and I was so stunned that my roommate ended up answering "What do you think, he's from Pennsylvania!" for me. 🙂
