Looked up? Sheeat, the graphical WWW was just a dream at that time. :) Seriously, though, I spent probably a year on my shell account, so I was just looking up . . . music, I think . . . on newsgroups.

Lynx rocked. I should use it again someday. :)

Got on Prodigy internet service around 94? Couldnt really figure out how to get on the actual internet so I hung out at their BBS. Did that for a few days (almost non stop) then my parents saw the phone bill......... I said "but they gave me 50 free minutes!" and my dad said "yeah but it is a long distance phone call!"

Doh! I think the phone bill was like $300-$400.

That was back in 93. The first time I saw it was with my English neighbor that used it to check soccer results on Prodigy, I think. They had the weirdest interface.

The following year I signed up with AOL, but they didn't have a connection to the WWW yet. Later I changed to Prodigy, which if I remember right was the first of the big three to have access to the WWW. But heck, I can't remember what I looked for. It sure wasn't porn tough (my PC was in the living room in front of everybody...) ;)

In all honesty, I don't think mine was porn. I think I did e-mailing and I played on-line games. Porn came later ;)

When I went online for the first time, I had a Commodore 64 and was using Quantum Link. So the choices were pretty slim. That was back in.......????? God, I'm getting old.

I looked up the Salem Witch Trials, for a report in my history class in college. That was five years ago now, and yes, I got an A. ;)

Bahahah been there... several years ago I had a friend of mine who ran an ISP set me up a "local" number to dial in to... but what we later found out is that Bellsouth can be rather retarded at times... Yes it was a local phone call from the server to me... but it WAS NOT a local phone call from me to the server... go figure.
Ended up getting a call at work from my Dad saying that he just got a $900 phone bill and I had some explaining to do. Won't do that again :)

No clue. I think it was an attempt to e-mail a friend though :)

Now look at me! I'm making websites, cruising the net like a real pro and enjoying every bit of it! Hehehe!

Back in '94 guys in my computer lab were amazed at some of the things you could find on the net, and we were especially taken by a French "art" site called "Femmes femmes femmes." :D

Back then, even the university had a slow connection so when trying to load images it would take a few minutes. Well this one guy was downloading a pic when the professor walked in...so he put it in the background of his desktop. A few minutes went by, and as he is literally sitting at his computer with his professor next to him the naked girl pops up front and center on his screen! The guy said something like "oh there must be something wrong with the internet today" and closed it out. The professor just looked at him and continued on. We never let him live that one down.

That is the first thing I can actually remember looking for on the web...that and a site called Arachnid's Web (search site?) or something...but don't remember what I was looking for.

When I first got online?

Hmm.... It was one of those "Fidonet" type things. Circa 1985 or 1986. 300 Baud. I collected G-Files, so I was always searching for those.

First graphical online experience was CompuServe in 1990. Look at the weather sattelites.

First true "internet" experience. GTE was the ISP I believe. Circa 1994 or 95. Looked up "Volkswagen+Rabbit" on Excite!

:)

Why do I remember ANY of this!?!?!

Early 80's 300 baud downloading warez and hack/phreak files from BBS. Used an AppleCat modem eventually upgraded the modem to 1200 with an add on card. The cool thing was when I got a program called CatsMeow I think that allowed chat and downloading at the same time, very cool.
