I was traumatized after I caught this scene from David Cronenberg's Videodrome at a baby sitter's house:

(jump to 2 minutes 20 seconds)

The first one I recall watching from the start was an old War of the Worlds movie which also terrified me.

[edit]

This movie scared the crap out of me when I first saw it as a kid. I had nightmares for weeks afterwards.

Man, have times changed. Now this would be a rated G movie.

Yup. This one probably. For some reason, drains in the bathroom sink and bathtub terrified me -- as if one of those martian heat ray fighting machine things would emerge from it.

".....Sally.........Saaaaaaalllyyyyyyy........" ugh!

omg, I thought I've seen all the Hammer films, but just caught this one last night. Gotta love Cushing and Lee!

Jaws.
When the head popped out of the boat I jumped out of my seat.

Joe M.

I saw that with both of my sisters when I was 8 years old. We were staying a week at my Grandma's house and I guess she wanted us out of the house for a while 'cause we were prolly driving her nuts.

I remember walking into the theater. There was a big Jaws around the door and you walked thru the mouth to get in lol. Yeah...that flick scared me big time.

This has reminded me of another poster here...of course I can't remember, who mentioned he was scared real bad from this movie.....I think it was made for TV.....*shrugs*

Oh hell, and I CAN'T forget 'The Manitou'...starring none other than Tony Curtis!

Dang, when that thing came outa that ladie's neck/back...........aaaaaaaarrrrrrrghh!

Probably Friday the 13th. Though even at a young age I found it more comical than scary. The first movie I remember that truly scared me as a child was Cujo.
