I downloaded that off an aol chatroom server 🙂
This was way before it was popular. I had a hard time even finding a decoder/player after I got the file!

i downloaded my first one in 1997 and never really got into it until college about a year and a half later. i just remember it being my first because i kept thinking to myself "so this is what an mp3 is..."
 
I believe it was Nine Inch Nails - The Perfect Drug. That song was cool. I'd play that and like 2 other songs (cause that's all I had) over and over while playing Quake 1. I had to give up quake sound since my sound card sucked and just listened to mp3s.
 
Garbage - Stupid girl...er actually that was #2, Daft punk -da funk was the one..back in '97. I now have about 3k mp3s. I remember it so clearly because it truly was one of those times when I was "Oh my god, this is going to be fantastic", and it has been. Mp3s rule!

i only remember because it was the only mp3 I downloaded before napster, and it took a looooooong time.
 
My first MP3 off of Napster was Big Wreck "That Song" I don't remember the actual first mp3 that I downloaded was. It was from some ftp site.

it was from a site that i found like in 1996 when i had a 486 and i like whoa.. mp3's are small and cool (cuz i had a 33.6 modem back then)..

White town - my lady. Back in '95 off aol mp3 roomz, i was styling with my 486 66mhz DX2, had the frauenhuer mp3 software, POS computer wasn't powerful enough to play it at stero 44hz so I had to play in mono.
 
Bad Religion - American Jesus

It was a live version of the song I got from a BR fansite probably around 1997, I didn't even know what mp3 was, it just told me to download a player(which was winamp v0.95) then I could listen to high quality live tracks. I had no idea what I was getting into...
