What was the first book you ever read?

I think it was grade 1. The Hobbit. Been hooked on fantasy and books in general ever since.

It's funny now when I think back to those early days. I failed kindergarten. I loved to draw pictures in water colours and my teacher never knew I was 90% deaf and neither did my parents. First grade teacher taught me to read by reading me Dick & Jane books. The next year I was reading the The Hobbit.

Strange days back then. I can remember my first day at kindergarten and no one there to pick me up after school, so I walked 3 miles home thru a very convoluted neighbourhood. Why do I remember these things?

Bullshit, you did not read The Hobbit in 1st grade and comprehend it.

You might have looked at the words.

Keep trying.

It was my first chapter book. I had a grade 12 spelling level in grade 2. Sorry to disappoint you.

Since I was reading at 3, and I can't remember that far back, how the hell would I know? Probably the Little Red Hen.

The earliest book I can actually remember:

A Swiftly Tilting Planet

That was in Jr. High. Still have the book... I'm sure there were earlier books - I remember some short stories but not their names - just the storyline.

First I remember was a bunch of Hardy Boys books. Then the Lion Witch & Wardrobe, Hobbit/LOR, Piers Anthony, Anne McCaffrey, etc.

Haven't read a book since I got hooked up to that internets.

Earliest one I can remember, from kindergarten.

Have you ever heard poetry recited in Latin? That has to be the creepiest, most malevolent sounding language ever created. It takes something that's supposed to be nice, and makes it feel like a threat :^D
Maybe a sixth of my music collection is in Latin. :colbert:
