Happened quite recently, actually. My piano teacher passed away from cancer last month (Text). She was very important to me, as I am a very serious music student (I'm currently a piano performance major at Indiana University). Shortly after her passing, her daughters informed me that she had requested that her piano be given to me. It was so touching, I just felt overwhelmed at the gesture, in fact I still do. Her gorgeous, 6.5ft Knabe Grand piano now sits in my living room. I think about her everytime I sit down to play it. She was truly an amazing woman. 🙁

As a kid, I got the Millenium Falcon when I was five for Christmas. Ever see a five-year old do a backflip? My dad has it on film somewhere.
As a semi-adult, my parents helping out with college despite me being a complete a$$hat at the time.

Best gift I've given was probably flying in and surprising my mother for mother's day. I thought she was going to have an anuerism in the back yard she was so happy.
Though, proposing to my wife maybe #1. I used Valentine's Day as a cover for a week of romantic shenanigans leading up to the proposal on V-Day. Caught her completely off guard and left her a speechless withering pile of crying goo...tears of joy mind you.

Wow that's really nice.

i got n64 and psx all in one christmas. That christmas was ownage. It's been downhill ever since.

Given: One of my friends had nothing but a super nintendo till up to like 2003, and he was a bit poor, so i went out and bought him an xbox with like 6 games.

This laptop, sound system, my first laptop.... First laptop was a precedent in nice gifts (7 years old). The sound system was very nice and I still use it quite often but this current laptop is the best because I was able to choose it which means its the best I could possibly get with a set budget.

That i was given: Ok it was a joint Xmas/18th B-day present as my B-day is in January, i got my first ever proper Hifi. Aiwa XA003-A amplifier (40wpc + 40wpc biamp) Genexxa (Tandy brand) Midi Turntable, Jamo D110 speakers (cool club style with Louvre grill and wattage figures emblazoned on the front).
The Amp is still running and powering some speakers downstairs in my parents living room 10 years on, the turntable exists but only in a boxed in a cupboard POV..lol, and the speakers got sold of once i'd upgraded to a nice man who gave me something to make me happy that went up in smoke...hehe

That i gave: To an 8 year old gir by the name of Janel, she was an inpatient at my local hospital, i had been there as an outpatient for my back problems when i was about 16, not quite old enough to be with the adult section, so i was with the kids. She loved riding horses, but severe ankylosingspondylitis (the thing that slowly siezes your spine up) stopped her from doing it any longer, so i gave her my print of Black Beauty novel that was given to me as a very young kid by my grandmother and was from the first print run. She still sends me Xmas cards even now over 10 years on and always says thankyou for it.

Best present I've given: My brother is a big Bruce Springsteen fan. So, I bought a 48 CD booklet and filled with numerous bootlegs from beginning to current day Bruce shows. Took awhile to download 48 CDs worth of shows and burn them, but he really liked the gift.

Given - I was thinking engagement ring, but that's not really a gift. It asks a hell of a lot in return. 🙂 I think the best was a gift I gave to my dad. I got a Green Bay Packers football, and had it personally signed by Bart Starr, Ray Nitschke, and Reggie White. I'm taking it soon to get signed by Brett Favre, hopefully. I wrote him about it, and he replied that he would love to add his name to the ball, but not until the season is over. He gave me a date that he will be signing at his steakhouse in GB.

Received - A wonderful wife.

my brother is going to LOVE what i got him this year. he mentioned a few months back about the Friday the 13th collection "From Camp Crystal to Manhattan" or something like that. i picked that up for him.

i also got my GF a tivo/dvd player (the toshiba media center) because she misses these spanish novelas she loves to watch, due to work. the other day she even asked me if there was any way to record them or anything because i don't have a vcr and neither does she. so she's gonna be very excited about it 🙂
