I stayed overnight in Manhattan Friday night and when I showered the next day I swear they had the best bath towels I had ever felt. I own 'Hotel Micro Cotton Collection' bath towels and they really are nice. But, WOW, those Ralph Lauren towels put the Hotel towels to SHAME.

So, I figured before I ordered some new bath towels, I'd ask here to see if others have had a similar experience? One where you just go 'Holy Sh!t, I gotta look at the label and see who makes these'!

stayed at a Hilton resort about a decade ago and they had the BEST TOWELS EVER. We looked for that brand and were able to find it cheap. Ordered 30 of them and have a bunch that are still new in a closet. They dont make em anymore I cant remember the name offhand but damn they are the softest most absorbing towels ever.

I happen to have a bunch of Ralph Lauren towels which I bought precisely because they were some of the nicest I'd used. A couple of them are over 15 years old too and still in near-perfect condition.

A super sized big and fluffy towel from some posh "boutique" hotel in SF.

Yeah we buy our towels from CostCo, K-Mart, etc.

Dry & clean FTW

A good towel warm out of the dryer beats a great towel cold every time.

Fieldcrest and Martex used to make competing "best" towels, Grand Patrician and Charisma, but companies went toes up and towels live on in name only, but are still better than average.

NEVER use fabric softener, its wax and makes towels less effective.
Vinegar is the only thing we add during washing towels.
Total luxury, heated towel rack for toasty completely dry towels.

The best kind of towel is like an iron skillet. You never clean it, just let it mature as it soaks in all the natural juices and flavors, and it will reward those it comes in contact with.

All I can say is this: FUCK the bath TOWEL. Get the Bath SHEET.

You will thank me later when you see the difference.

extra****** thick cotton. bought in 1998 and used it brutally (washed at max heat, brought it to the beach, used it as blanket) every day since, it still looks new.

I would think how they are washed and dried would have a big impact on how they the feel and absorb water.

spend some $$ on a nice one, think about how much you use it.

~50+ for a bath sheet size

Yeah these are my favourite. I just bought a whole set of new ones since my old ones (around a dozen years old, probably more) recently started to look a bit tattered.

I am really picky about my bath towel. I don't like the hard type or scrubbing type. I want soft like velvet. Where did I find this type of towel? I tried Bed Bath and Beyond, JCPenny, and other places. I found the best towels at: Walmart. Yes, look at their high end towels. After you purchase it, wash it and use softener. The towel will come out velvety soft.

We stayed at a resort Orlando once, and they had a compartment next to the tiled open shower with HEATED towels.

First, it was really odd washing off in a shower with no doors...like being naked in a water park :D When you were done, there was this thing that looked like a rotisserie that had the thickest towels I've ever used. They were like RUGS I tells ya!

Ever dry off with a towel that smells slightly mildew-y, and then you smell it on yourself the rest of the day? I HATE THAT!

yip. seems to happen more in the summer.

speaking of summer, my wife dries the laundry outside. I HATE air dried towels. feels like stiff sandpaper on my sack. gimme me towels dried in the dryer with downy fabric sheets and im a happy husband.
