the tanks were in the desert and the soldiers were hiding in the ground when the tanks rolled over them caving in them?

The Big Red One had a scene where they had to hide in a cave as what seemed like the whole German Army rolled past them. I don't remember the cave collapsing but it's been 15 years since I saw that movie.

don't know the cast, all i remember they dug holes hid in them then the tanks rolled over and the dirt caved in on them.

That's the Big Red One, Mark Hamill was in it.

"Tobruk" or "Rats of Tobruk", I forget which one,

Is it in The Big Red One that an Italian kid trips and explodes under a tank's thread while his mamma is there amongst the locals watching the Americans enter a town? That scene made me go .

The Beast

I dont specifically remember the scene you describe, but it is about a lost tank unit in Afghanistan. Hmm...it's been a while since I've seen this one, may have to re watch it.

B/w or color movie? BRO had a couple scenes like that dealing with Kasserine and one after landing during Husky. But really need just a wee bit more detail to nail it down as there were a lot of WW2 desert type movies.
