What was that psychology test called when they tested...

A while back a psychologist did a test on subjects in which he showed the subject and 3 others a bar graph. The subject was asked to tell which one was higher than the rest (A,B,C or D) after 3 people had already answered. They found that people were more likely to go along with a group, even if they knew that the answer was wrong, than to stand alone with the correct answer.

They also tested when the person was allowed to answers anonymously. Finally they tested what happened if the person was given a partner.

What was this test called? I remember watching a video on it and it was very interesting. And I would love to watch it again.

Heh, I had this one done on me actually in middle school where they were trying to prove this point except they totally choose the wrong person because I just raised my hand at the correct answer and proceeded to tell the people next to be he was freaking blind if they couldn't get that right.

In how many cultures has this experiment been carried out? I wonder if this is just an outgrowth of social tendancies among humans, a survival instinct that helps an individual to maintain a safe position within the protection of a group.
