Yesterday I woke up at around 3:30 in the morning to go to bathroom. I got out to the diner room and take a drink of water. My house's diner room is connected to the kitchen and is very widely open with windows surrouding the diner room. Looking through the windows from the Kitchen while drinking water I saw this light, kinda yellowish but sometimes just regular clear light, handing on top of the pool in my backyard. Now this is not a huge light its medium sized. I am sure that is no reflection from inside my house because there is no light inside my house. I do admit my eyes were blurry but then I stay for about 5 minutes and took a GOOD LOOK and it's still there. This time there are 4-5 of them across the pool. They are flying but remain consisten in their spot. They look creepy so I kinda walked away. These things are weird, the feeling it gave me is really weird. Now I live in Los Angeles esp this area not much trees. I know last time when I went to Virginia I often see these bugs that gives off light. They're flying bugs and they will light on then stop and reappears. The insects I saw in VA are extremely sensitive to their environment and won't survive here. Those things I saw yesterday are different! They won't move and the the light stays on consistently. I couldn't understand what insects were they or were they even insects. Can someone help so I can get a good sleep tonight?

The water only works if you're a little girl, and the bat only works if you co-star with Mel Gibson.

it's not a firefly?

Yes, these are the same bugs. The ones that light up and then the light goes away and then they light up again blah blah blah they blink on and off all the time.

We have them in South Carolina, but I haven't seen them in about 3-4 years. Dunno if they can't live here anymore for some reason or what.

Now the really large bug that never stops giving out light, well my recomendation to you is that you lay off the crack pipe.

I've seen a spiky worm that lights up in asia, but I've never seen the bug that I saw that night =x. Maybe they're firefly its very unlikely since its Los Angeles and they don't blink. Anyway if those things pop up in my backyard again I'm gonna go take a close took and catch one. Hopefully, they don't bite too hard.

all i've heard is that they dont have fireflys etc. on the west coast. they cant get over the rockies... honestly, i heard it from a biologist too. maybe right, maybe wrong. there ARE different kinds tho... we usually have the on off ones, but there are sometimes ones that blink three times fast... maybe yours were just stuck in the on position for some reason, like they were freakin out.
