What was before atari?

I was having a conversation with someone at work the other day. She said she bought her kids a gaming console several years ago, and she said it was before atari. She did not know the name of it. I did some searching and only found the atari system before the 2600 that came with only 1 game, but nothing before that. Any idea if there was one and what it was called?

she found out what it was. she said In-television or something like that. She said it had little square cartidges (but what old console doesnt?)

I had the odyssey 2. There were some great games for it, I just can't remember any except for pick axe pete. I know there was one like pac man where you could design your own levels.

EDIT: I guess the name of the pacman game was K.C. munchkins.
Magnavox Does It Better
Magnavox releases a game called K.C. Munchkin for the Odyssey2. Atari deems K.C. Munchkin to be very similar to Pac-Man and sues. Atari wins the lawsuit, and Magnavox must remove K.C. Munchkin from the market.

Yeah, Intellivision. I remember those but not the fact they predated Atari. I think a kid I knew had one but it's been so long I don't really remember anymore.

Coleco Releases the Colecovision

Coleco releases the Colecovision, a cartridge-based game console buoyed not only by superior graphics and sound, but also by support from a growing game company: Nintendo. Nintendo licenses Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Junior to Coleco, which releases excellent translations for the Colecovision and ports reasonable versions to the Atari VCS and Intellivision. Coleco also releases an adapter that lets VCS cartridges be played on the Colecovision. Realizing that Atari has firm support from Namco, creator of Pac-Man, Coleco involves itself heavily with Sega, Konami, and Universal (Mr. Do!).
😀 memories...

1977 - Atari 2600
1980 - Mattel Intellivision

We had some generic Pong game that had about 10 variations on the whole Pong experience. It was quite lame, but we thought it was the shiznit at the time.

there was some other deal....Channel F, or System F
can't remember if it was before, during, or after Atari

thanks, Nolan

re; Nolan Bushnell;

He is arguably the father of computer entertainment.
Nolan Bushnell founded Atari in 1972 and subsequently launched the video-game revolution with Pong. He sold Atari in 1976 for $28 million, and the following year opened the first Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant, which combines fast food and electronic games and amusements.
