Use any virus scanner that supports scanning email. It works with Norton 2003.

Can you explain how you configured TB & NAV 2003 to get this to work - I've been having trouble. Whenever NAV detects a virus it zaps my entire Inbox since (from what I understand) TB stores all the mail as one file or in one folder.

Thanks

According to T-Bird FAQs it says,
"Is Thunderbird susceptible to e-mail viruses?

Thunderbird will not allow a virus or worm to execute automatically. You can see what attachments have been sent to you without a virus being able to execute, and you would have to save a file to your system and deliberately run it before it could cause any harm.

JavaScript is switched off by default for mail and news, so an e-mail cannot run script code just by being opened.

As with any mail program, take proper caution before running any file that you receive in e-mail. Appropriate anti-virus software should also help keep you safer."

I haven't gotten a virus so I don't know if it works. But the fear of a virus is why I switched from Outlook Express to T-Bird.

That's kind of strange. NAV usually just stops the email from downloading. To be honest, I don't think I've gotten an email virus in a while now so I don't know exactly how it works. I didn't have to configure it to do anything. NAV knows somehow to scan outgoing emails too. Right now, I'm on my laptop though which uses EZTrust Antivirus so I can't look up any settings for you. I'll bookmark it and come back on Monday.

Thanks for the replies, this thread over at the Mozilla forum shows the issues people (including me) have been having with NAV & TB (and other anti-virus programs). I was hoping some AT members might be able to help out here since the TB evangalists don't like anyone who doesn't worship at the TB altar.

I just took a look at my NAV 2003 settings and there really isn't anything for me to set... Sorry.
