Not overclocked yet, will do once i need it overclocked for that little extra performance

I use a VisionTek GF4 Ti 4200 clocked at 250/500. But I need ViVo for some capture work I need to do for my wife. Should I buy a new graphics card with ViVo or get a standalone capture card? I'm gonna make a thread out of this one...

i say a standalone. it is cheaper for one thing....but hear is a better reason. I hear that the ATI AIW guys that have the 8500 and what not, have to install a helluva lot of drivers for their card. i think it is 4 separate drivers vs one for a regular 8500 or 9700 or whatever. it is more peace of mind just installing one driver and keeping up with that than having to stay up-to-date on all 4 driver sets.

if you decentralize your needs, it will also be good for upgrading. you keep the vid card strictly for gaming or graphics work and if the need arises, you upgrade that. all the while, keeping the capture card (which you are perfectly happy with) and just carrying it over to the new system. or maybe vice versa.

also, i think companies that specialize in capturing video are probably better than the cards with VIVO built in(maybe excluding ATi).

i just upgraded the old gforce 2 mx 200 64mb to a brand new ati 9700

life is sweet

the card in my other system is a radeon aiw and until recently i never knew games could look this good or be playable with everything turned all the way up

i am running the newest drivers and no glitches no problems lol

i ran 100 runs with 3d mark 2001 at highest settings and she clocks nicely at351 and 351 and nope i haven't tried higher until i learn a few things more

Right now I'm using a Gainward Geforce4 Ti4600 but I also have a Gainward Geforce4 MX440, Gigabyte Radeon 9000 and a Creative Geforce3 Ti200. Until recently I was also testing the ATI Radeon 9700 pro which will probably replace the Ti4600 to become my main video card.

It had been a solid stable card and has given me absolutely ZERO problems, but it's age has caught up with it.

LeadTek Geforce3 ti200 running stock. I've hesitated to overclock it for lack of adequate cooling (one case fan and that's it). I'm thinking of selling it off and getting me a 8500 or even an 8500le, just to acheive 60fps on UT2k3 at 1024x768. I'm running a 1700xp and up to this point virtually every game has run beautifully (with exception to MOHAA which runs pretty well, but stutters alot in certain areas). Would you guys recommend the jump to an 8500? I'm sure i could get $60-$70 for my GF3 so i would pay the difference, maybe $30. Also which 8500 would you recommend out of the myriad of options. Thanks.

I have a radeon 9700pro and it rocks. The drivers are a bit sad though.

As for upgrading from a GeForce 3 to a Radeon 8500, not worth the money. Not enough 'bang for your buck'. If i was you, i would be keeping the geforce 3 for some time yet before upgrading. But that's just me.

If you were wondering, i was using a S3 Savage 4 with a celeron 566mhz up til now. Believe me getting an upgrade to a 2.4ghz Pentium 4 and a Radeon 9700pro is one hell of a power boost

I have a Radeon 8500 retail (275/275) with a Voodoo 3 glued to the top of it for good luck. It kicks out around 5 more FPS with the voodoo 3 attached believe it or not.
