So in about another year and a half maybe, depending on how some stuff goes, I might be buying a new Shuttle system to replace my almost aging Fragbox. Currently I have a 6800GT in it (the powersupply that came with the machine burned out...so now I have my old Thermaltake 420w sitting behind it with the leads running in where the old PSU was. Looks very ghetto, I am proud :D) and it runs really nicely but I'm really hoping I can buy a more powerful card by the time I upgrade.

So what cards are you all using, more specifically those who use their rig for gaming? Is ATI good? I know their cards generally are smaller than nVidia.

ATI's cards are generally smaller but this time around nVidia has ATI beat...with the exception of one card. the radeon x800xl. nvidia has nothing in the price range of the x800xl that can compete with it. the 6800gt costs about a hundred dollars more than the x800xl and the great thing about the x800xl is that it doesn't need an external power supply, it draws all of its power from the pci-e bus. there is one x800xl, the powercolor radeon x800xl that DOES require a 6-pin power connector i believe. in any case, you said this upgrade wont be happening anytime soon...about another year and a half. you should know how fast the pc industry moves. within the next 18 months there will be cards that will be hell of a lot faster than anything thats out now. just to put things in perspective. a few months(maybe a year, i cant remember) ago the 6800 series cards came out, and already NV has come out with the 7800gtx and when the R520 from ati comes out its rumored to have 32 pipelines...all current GPU such as the 6800GT and the 7800GTX have 16 and 24 pipes respectively. if you're more than 6 months away from buying a new setup then i say you dont have to worry too much about whats out now, unless you're the type of person who buys the best bang for the buck card which has been out for a while...and not the type of person that goes for the bleeding edge or something close to that type of a card. hope this helps.

Hehe, reason I ask is more out of curiosity than anything else. Though I tend to be the guy who doesn't go for the latest-and-greatest; what's being used now as far as video cards go, I'll probably be using when I upgrade...though I'd buy a PCI Express card, for sure.

That's interesting about the x800xl. That's always been my concern with SFF, the power supplies. But they're getting more powerful it seems with each series...the SB95P's have 350's in them, mmmmm.

Dude, the only way i would ever mod a PSU is to change the fan. A single screw up there and you could toast your entire computer. Even then, Shuttle PSU's are beasts.

I ordered my SN25P over the long weekend and its out for delivery right now. I love this Newegg shipping speed! I'm going to be using an XFX GeForce 6600GT for this beast.

Wow, that is a lot of storage! I will probably be grabbing a Raptor to put in mine once the next generation ones come out with improved NCQ support and SATA II.
