Steam is really screwing people over.

-can't play single player without internet connection
-can't run a lan game (or tournament for that matter) without all computers being hooked to the internet

one good thing out of this is the new "cheat" technology. valve will be constantly changing the game code so hackers have a much harder time exploiting the game.

Agreed. Requiring an internet connection for sp or LAN games is just crazy.

I'll probably get the SP+MP version though.

that is bull crap. i dont see this as a smart move. many a LAN i've been to do not have internet (think like someones garage or whatnot.) The least they could do is make it where you don't activate steam if you LAN.

/me wonders if its possible to put a "fake" steam server within the LAN so that the computers think they are talking to the verification thingy.

anywho, i think there will be a workaround sooner or later, at least for better LANability.

Chill guys, it will be hacked shortly after the game comes out. Yeah, it pissis me off to, but it will only be temporary.

I highly doubt you won't be able to lan without an internet connection with the basic game. HIGHLY doubt. You know how many MASSIVE lans were centered around counter-strike?

You can doubt it all you want to but its true. Once Steam is enabled you MUST HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION to do anything with the game. It will check your CD-Key everytime you want to play SP, MP, LAN it up, or PATCH. If your CD-Key is not verified: "No Soup For You!" :Q

guys, its not even a definite yet. calm down, and wait it out. and your proctologist called. he found your head.

That's crazy. I'm going to be seriously pissed if it really ends up that way.

that is how it's going to end up. it's on the steamwebsite directly from them
